A private, grounded AI tutor

Your Personal Tutor.

Type a topic, get a grounded tutor. Study Buddy searches the web for real sources, reads them, and teaches you from that material — at your level, in your style. When the session ends, you take away what you learned. Like a real tutor.

Local-first. Your questions, notes, and learning never leave this device.

How a session works

01

Pick a topic

Type anything — photosynthesis, basketball, machine learning — and choose your level, from Elementary through Graduate. Or paste your own lecture notes and learn from those.

02

It reads real sources

Study Buddy searches the web, reads the pages it finds, and teaches only from that grounded material — reducing hallucinations and keeping answers factual.

03

Learn your way

Eight teaching styles — Explain, Quiz me, Socratic, Devil's advocate, Perspectives, Feynman, Spaced recall, Worked examples. Ask follow-ups; the tutor stays in context.

Bring your own AI

Fully local, by default

Point Study Buddy at Ollama and the tutor runs on your own laptop — free, no key, no account. The app walks you through installing it and downloading a model.

Or any major provider

OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, Groq, Together AI. Your key, your choice, one settings tab each — you decide where your questions go.

Search you control

Sources come from DuckDuckGo by default — free, no key needed. Prefer Brave, Bing, Serper, or your own SearXNG instance? One setting.

Privacy-first, by design

Most AI tutoring tools want an account, your data, and a subscription. Study Buddy runs on your computer, so what you don't understand yet stays your business.

For students

Open the app, type "photosynthesis", and have a private, grounded conversation about it — then close the app and get back to studying. No account to create, no subscription to cancel.

For ESL learners

Plain language everywhere — "Secret key", not "API Key"; "AI Brain", not "Model" — with generous whitespace and a calm visual style that doesn't add cognitive load in a second language.
